Tarot and Mediumship

What Is Mediumship?

We are all potential mediums. For some it comes naturally because their body and mind are adaptable, for others it comes with training. A medium has the ability to communicate (channelling) with those who have died. The form of communication can differ according to the ability of the medium. For example, some can see a picture of the person in their head (clairvoyance), some can hear their words (clairaudience) while others may see them physically manifest before them (this is extremely rare). Very gifted mediums may manage all three channeling processes. In order to contact the 'other side' most mediums will express a need to 'sit in the Power'. This means they are meditating, trying to raise their vibrational energy to that of Spirits, so that Spirits can in turn communicate their message.

Can Mediumship Be Combined With Tarot?

Absolutely - although it should not be confused with a psychic reading. Tarot is primarily a psychic tool, that means it reads the energy (aura) of the client and the issues surrounding them. If you apply mediumship to Tarot, it means you are using the Tarot cards as a messaging tool to contact the client's dead relatives. The vast majority of Tarot readers are psychics, and not mediums.

How To Combine Tarot And Mediumship

The first thing you need to do is connect with the client, and in doing so you connect with their energy to their deceased loved ones. Personally I find this easiest to do by just having a general chat and avoiding the Tarot cards for the first five minutes. This allows me time to sit in the Power and connect. How do you know if you have connected? As soon as you feel sympathetic to the client, as though you are under their skin (although you know nothing about them), you have connected. At this point, you have two options.

Option 1: Ask the client to shuffle the cards and place 5 cards in a row. Those cards contain a message from their loved one. This sort of Tarot spread is much more suited to a psychic reader, someone who can read deeper meaning into the cards than their face value. If you don't feel experienced enough to give this sort of reading, I suggest option 2.
Option 2: The mediumship reading. To perform this, ideally dim the lights and play soft music. Begin by choosing a card (significator 1) that represents the client and then one that represents the deceased (significator 2, this may be a card that triggers a specific memory about the deceased). Lay out as follows:

Cards 1 to 5: This confirms the connection. In some way, these cards should confirm that the client has connected with their loved one. It could contain indications of their previous employment, their relationship with the client or trigger some memory.
Cards 6 to 9: This offers a personal message from the Spirit to the client.
Cards 10 to 14: This contains important information for the client. It reveals their future, or if the client wanted to ask the deceased a question, the answer is contained in these cards.

This is a channeling reading which is designed to open a gateway to the other side. Once you have completed the reading, the client will be able to continue the conversation with their loved one.

What Does It Feel Like To Speak To The Dead?

It surprises me how infrequently people ask me this question. Perhaps it is because traditionally mediums are shrouded in a veil of impenetrable mysticism. Yet, we are all ordinary people who are just as much in awe at the idea of life after death as anyone else. The first time I was able to connect with a person’s loved one is etched in my memory. We were sitting having coffee in a cafe, and a song from the 1950s came on the radio. One moment I was looking at the woman opposite me (who I knew very little about), the next I saw a video running before my eyes. It contained details of a woman, from decades before. Before I knew it, I asked my colleague if she knew of such and such a person, who lived in a particular street, opposite a priest. The woman froze and confirmed she did, it was her step mother who had passed many years before. And there it was. That is how it happened for me. Since then this sort of occasion has become much more frequent and it has taught me much about the Spirit world. As a medium it is our responsibility to give evidence to a client of the afterlife. Why? For perfectly practical reasons. Their loved ones want to dispel any doubts that they aren't alive. They are alive, they want to proove it and they want you to listen to them. This is the reason why TV mediums spend time giving proof that they have connected with the loved one of a particular audience member - for example, giving a house address, family name, job description and so on.

Note on mediumship: Despite what you may have heard, there is no need to surround yourself with charms to deter evil spirits. Such rituals are performed for superstitious purposes. Your natural auric mind is sufficient protection. Until you have mastered your fears of the unknown however, I recommend waiting to develop your mediumship. The time to work on your mediumship is when you naturally have no fear of contacting the after-life.
