How Does Tarot Reading Work?

People often wonder how tarot cards that are picked from a deck in a random order can possibly relate to a persons life in a meaningful way. It is generally excepted that tarot does not necessary tell you the action you should take in a given situation, but instead gives you the options or the different directions you can take. There are many theories behind how tarot can be so effective. We will look at two of the main theories behind tarot in this article.

The first of these theories on how tarot reading works is synchronicity. It is believed that the universe will guide us in the proper direction through coincidence. Basically these are signs that say "hay you, do this" or "you should try this." Synchronicity and tarot can be explained partially through the use of quantum mechanics. Without going into a full blown discussion on quantum mechanics, it is safe to say there are forces in quantum mechanics that have a very real effect on physical objects. It is believed that these energies are what influences the cards it tarot reading.

The next theory of tarot is projection. Some believe that we project our believes and thoughts onto the tarot reading and get the outcome we expect. In other words you find that which you seek. If this theory of tarot is indeed true, then tarot can become a very useful tool. What I mean by this, is it can help you connect to your true desires, emotions and feeling that are harbored in your subconscious mind. Tarot reading in terms of looking into our subconscious could be related to the ink blot test we are all familiar with. I would have to say at this point that tarot is more an aid in discovering what is inside and a way to talk with your higher self.

To perform a tarot reading you do not need a psychic, but some believe a psychic is better for the energy they provide. There are two distinct types of tarot readings. The first is the question tarot. This is where you use the tarot reading to answer a specific question. Typically you are looking for a yes or no answer. Try to look at this type of tarot reading as a guide in helping you make a decision. When asking the question try to ask it in a general overview with some detail, but not overly detailed. When asking a question in tarot it is also best to focus the question around you. What I mean by this is ask questions on what you can do to change, improve or alter the situation. It is also best to ask the question in a neutral way. Try not to ask the question from strictly one point of view. This will give you a broader range of possible answers and solutions. Of course when doing a tarot you want to stay positive in your questions and expectations.

The next type of tarot is what is called an open reading. This type of tarot reading is designed to give you a broad overview of your life. When doing this type of tarot reading you can get a little specific and get information on areas like love, money, health and relationships.

When a tarot is done, typically the person receiving the reading will shuffle the cards. This is the time to stay in the moment and focus on what you want to find out from the tarot reading. After the deck has been shuffled the person doing the tarot reading will place the cards out in a spread. In the tarot reading the placement of the cards in the spread has meaning along with the card itself. Different tarot spreads are used depending on the nature of your question, the reader and time permitting.

Surprisingly tarot can be extremely accurate. I highly suggest people give it a try and experiment with tarot reading. I think you may be surprised at the answers you come up with, along with the problems solved.
